Obituary
Maryann Goodell Wolfgang
- of
Longmont died
Friday, Oct. 24, 2003, at her
home. She was 45.
Maryann Wolfgang lost her gallant
and tenacious battle against breast cancer shortly after midnight on October 24, 2003. She passed
on with the same dignity and grace she has exhibited through out her
life, and after giving all she could give.
Mary Ann Goodell was born on
December 10, 1957, in Cass City, Michigan to William James and
Jacqueline Ann (Stapleton) Goodell. She lived in Gagetown Michigan
until she graduated from Cass City High School, Cass City, Michigan in 1976. She went to
college at Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Michigan
and graduated with a Nursing Degree in 1979. She then worked at St.
Luke’s Hospital in Bay City, Michigan. While living in Bay
City, she met and married Gordon Wolfgang from Medway,
Massachusetts, on August 7, 1982, at St. Agatha’s Catholic Church in
Gagetown, Michigan.
They made their home in Franklin, Massachusetts where they had
three children, Meghan Nicole Wolfgang of Longmont, Kristen Kathleen
Wolfgang of Longmont and William Donald Wolfgang until 1989. While
living in Massachusetts, Mary worked at Boston’s Children’s
Hospital. In 1989 Mary and family moved to Arlington, Texas, where they lived until
1991. They then moved to Overland Park, Kansas until 1994,
Rochester Hills, Michigan to 1997, and Greenville, South Carolina to 1999.
Mary and her family moved to
Longmont in August 1999. She was very active in the Mead
Elementary, Mead Middle School, Niwot High School and Fairview High
School volunteer activities until very recently. She was the Mead
Middle School PAC President for 2 years.
Mrs. Wolfgang was a perennial
volunteer at all of her children’s schools where ever the family
moved. She was also active in church activities, teaching religious
instruction, setting up children’s churches, contributing to church
community services.
She loved her children bringing
her to be a devoted Hockey Mom and Softball Mom. She enjoyed
friends, traveling, cooking, and contributing to the community. She
loved and was always comforted by her dog Tucker.
Mary was preceded in death by her
father William Goodell, father-in-law Donald Wolfgang, and recently
by her mother-in-law Mary Eileen Wolfgang.
She is survived by her husband,
her two daughters and son of Longmont, her mother Jacqueline of
Gagetown, Michigan, her sister and sons Joann, Joshua, Garrett, and
Tyler of Bay City, Michigan, her brother-in-laws, wives and families
William and Lea Wolfgang of Blackstone, Massachusetts, and John and
Debra Wolfgang of Clarkston, Michigan; her sisters-in-laws and
husband Joanne and Mike Gemborys, of Clarkston, Michigan, and
Patricia Spavold of Franklin, Massachusetts.
Visitation services will be held
at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, in the Howe Mortuary Chapel.
A funeral Mass will be held at St.
John the Baptist at 1:30 pm on
Tuesday October 28, 2003.
Memorial contributions may be made
to any Breast Cancer organization in Mary’s name.

The Saddest Email
This email is the saddest email that I
have ever had to write. Earlier this morning, 12:49 am 24 October
2003, Maryann Goodell Wolfgang (my wife) passed away. She gave a
great fight against the cancer, but in the end the cancer won. She
is now in heaven's eternity with God, peaceful, and without pain.
The last several weeks were very difficult for Mary with much
pain, deteriorating condition and preparation for her next
journey. Through all her life, and most notably over the last
three years, this wonderful lady always exhibited grace,
compassion and confidence, in all her actions up to the end. She
had a strength that I can only wish to have. I will certainly
miss this great mother, wonderful wife and my best friend.
Your thoughts and prayers over the
years have certainly kept Mary and our family going as we battled
her sickness. Thank you for all your support.
We have not worked out all the
details, but we will be using the Howe Funeral Home here in
Longmont, CO, and a Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John
the Baptist Catholic Church also in Longmont. Timing will not be
solidified until later today, and I will send an email to this
distribution list when the plans are firm.
Again thank you all for your support.
Please pass this on to others that may have known my beautiful
wife Mary.
Gordon, Meghan, Kristen and Billy

In celebration of the life of Maryann Goodell
Wolfgang the family hosted a memorial Mass at St. Agatha's Catholic Church, at 4th and
South
Streets in Gagetown, MI on Friday the 28th of November 2003 at 11:00
am. A
lunch reception was held at the church immediately following the
Mass.
About 200 people from all over Michigan came to
the services. It was a mixture of Mary's family, friends from
metropolitan Gagetown, college and work, in addition to Gord and the
Kids friends and family. The service was beautiful.
My kids, Meghan, Kristen, and Billy in addition to
Mary's Mom Jackie Goodell and her sister Joann Beauchamp and Family
and myself thank you so much for the outpouring of kindness in our
hour of such pain. Mary was a magnet for such wonderful
people. We miss her more than words can express.
